Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder is
a diagnosed behavioural condition. The
diagnosed individuals are affected in a
variety of ways including displaying
challenging behaviours, shortened attention
spans, inability to follow verbal
instructions, inability to concentrate on
focused activities, poor sleeping patterns,
possible dietary requirements and receptive
language difficulties.
This is a lifelong condition which can be
managed through medication, routines,
individualised strategies including fidget
toys, visual aids, sensory items and
timetables.
Appropriate communication has a significant
effect on ADHD, both in terms of supporting
individuals to communicate more
appropriately and amending our communication
to enable them to understand us to the best
of their ability.
