Asperger Syndrome (AS) is an Autistic Spectrum Condition (ASC) which affects individuals over the three areas typically affected by ASCs:

• Social communication - e.g. difficulty with non-verbal body language, lack of understanding of social rules, lack of empathy for others

• Communication - e.g. unusually mature use of vocabulary in younger individuals, pedantic and literal use and interpretation of language

• Imagination (thought and behaviour) - e.g. obsessions with topics or subjects, dislike of change, need for routines

Strategies to support AS include awareness, visual aids, explicit social rules, social skills groups and clear communication
