Dealing with bereavement and loss can
present difficulties for children and young
people and show itself in different ways.
Experiencing bereavement and loss is part of
life but too many losses and/or their
consequences can be hard to cope with.
Chronic (long term) difficulties in dealing
with bereavement and loss can lead to mental
health problems in children and young
people.
Useful websites:
"Hands On Scotland" is a useful website
for anyone working with or caring for
children and young people who have troubling
behaviours. It gives practical information
and tools to support you to respond
helpfully. It includes video clips,
information sheets and downloadable tips and
advice. Another section of the website
contains help on topics related to positive
mental health, like confidence, optimism,
resilience and good relationships which help
children and young people to cope with life
stresses.
The website was created with funding from
the Scottish Government to support mental
health and wellbeing.
