Educational psychologists are employed by
the Council and work in all local authority
schools and nurseries (including partnership
nurseries) within West Lothian. The service
works collaboratively with school staff,
other agencies and parents to help children
and young people who have additional support
needs. There is also a service to the very
young, pre-nursery children when there are
concerns about a child's development which
may result in additional support needs.
The Educational Psychology Service offers a
tiered approach to involvement. With
parental consent, a head teacher may consult
with an educational psychologist to request
advice about meeting a child's educational
needs. Following a period of review, formal
referral to Educational Psychology might be
necessary. This would involve a process of
collaborative assessment, reporting,
planning and review of any interventions
suggested. The next layer of work might
involve making recommendations to senior
managers of the Council should exceptional
resources be required.
Educational psychologists are also involved
in research and development activities and
training. |
