Blackburn Family Centre aims to provide opportunities for children to socialise in a safe, educational environment. It provides mutual support and self-help amongst parents, enabling both parent and child the chance of further education. Our goals are to enable parents to address issues relating to improvements in family health and the local community. We ensure that families on low, fixed incomes have access to our resources.

This is an independent, voluntary organisation run by a management board comprising local people. The organisation provides a service which aims to meet the needs of the local community using a community development approach. It is based on the philosophy that education is the key to individual and community development. It has been in existence since 1989 and has evolved over the years to provide the current services.

Services include:

• Adult education classes run in mornings and afternoons

• Computer suite with internet access available for classes and individual use and supported by laptop lending

• Information and advice on adult guidance

• Playwork training available to staff working in Out Of School Care Clubs throughout West Lothian. Training is SVQ Playwork Level 3

• Range Adventure Playground provides clubs and activities all year round for children and young people aged 5-15 years.

• Early years training is available to staff working with pre-school children

• A creche for pre-school children supports the adult programme and a coffee bar is available

• An out of school care service for parents in work or education is available after school in term time and during school holidays
