Service Name: HEALTH VISITORS

All pre-school children have a Health Visitor

The Health Visiting team aims to provide support to families with babies and young children. Health Visitors are members of the primary health care team but also work in partnership with other agencies such as education, social work and police.

The Health Visiting team provides:

  • Home visits

  • Facilitated groups

  • Assessment

  • Support

  • Health promotion

  • Health education

  • Information about local services

  • Liaison and referral to other agencies

Role and qualifications of a Health Visitor

A Health Visitor is a qualified nurse who has undertaken further training in order to work as a member of the primary health care team. The role of the Health Visitor is about the promotion of health and the prevention of illness. Please contact your Health Visitor if you require advice relating to any of the following:

  • Antenatal support

  • Breast feeding support

  • Baby massage

  • Post natal depression

  • Infant and child nutrition

  • Immunisation

  • Development

  • Child protection

  • Child sleep problems

  • Behaviour management

  • Home safety and accident prevention

  • Support for children with special care needs

  • Sexual health and contraceptive advice

  • Healthy lifestyle advice

  • Local community groups
