COMMON ISSUES - TOILET TRAINING / BED WETTING

Most parents think about toilet training when their child is eighteen months to two years old. However, it is not unusual for children not to be reliably toilet trained at the age of three. If a child is poorly or a bit unsettled, that can also make things worse. Unless a child is never managing to stay dry for any length of time, it is worth persisting, just encouraging them to go to the toilet regularly. Lots of children get engrossed in play and tend to ignore the signals from their bladder. Give them lots of praise when they manage to stay dry for a few hours.

Every child is individual and it takes some longer than others to become dry at night, especially if they sleep really deeply. It does not usually mean there is a real problem. If you're concerned, contact your GP or health visitor for advice.
